Hello, I'm in the same boat: I need to stain sq. I am leaning toward the Armstrong Clark Seriously, the web sites have the same forum engine, same look and feel, event the same "shipping truck" icons and wordings. All of the oils from Cabots, BM, etc used to be great products. Then when VOC laws changed they had to fill that void with solids more oil. This threw all of their formulations out of wack. Mineral spirits are cheap. Depends on your wood type and age but leans towards golden tint.
WE stained our sq ft deck last year with TWP The cedar planks were perfect, the conditions under which we stained it too were perfect and were happy with the coverage and the colour. I am noticing, however that it has faded considerably especially around the area of the knots. I was considering rubbing an additional coat on the entire deck to darken these areas and further protect the deck. Do you recommend that I do this? I am surprised that the stain has only stood up this one winter season, 8 months only.
There is no pealing or anything like that, just fading. Knots are always lighter in color due to the density of the wood there. The works just as well as the Can i store the rest of my twp stain in a sealed plastic Gallon Lid for use it again next years?!? You can store it in plastic containers but no guarantee it will last. Shelf life is 12 months after being opened. New deck built may with brown pressure treated. I live in Canada. What colour would you recommend to get to bring back that new brown pressure treated colour.
