Why does mara jade hate luke

Like that Qom Jha proverb Builder With Vines quoted at us in the caverns, the one about many vines woven together being stronger than the same number used separately. We complement each other perfectly, Luke, all the way down the line. And we can only get better at it. Give us a few more years, and enemies of the New Republic will be running for cover like crazy. Luke — has so many fans.

And I understand, because most EU books fail to demonstrate basic fiction writing concepts such as character arc so no wonder those fans might be confused. Mara does have a character arc, and this is the result of the journey that started in HttE, got badly sidetracked by other writers, and finally was put back on track — only to derail in the most spectacular manner possible in the abysmal train wreck that was the EU under DelRey.

The trouble — or not — is that many of the readers who did find it objectionable eventually stopped buying the books and dropped out of fandom. Seriously, kudos on skipping right past it. Instead, we are supposed to sit around feeling grateful one hundred percent of the time?! Kudos, again. And that means Mara is not a worthy romantic interest, and can only serve as a supporting character who walks into a scene, says something cutting, and walks out.

Heaven forbid! The pearls, they are so tightly clutched at the thought. Gods, no, Mara is not an infallible character. Criticize away. There is a ton of give and take there. Yes but you are posting something about the beginning of their life together, the others are talking about the evolution of their relationship as husband and wife, a relationship that seem to lack of something. Obviously Zhan wrote Mara well, she was his character, but unfortunately, others have written about her and Luke, and the sum of the writings is what matter.

No, Tracy specifically mentioned Vision of the Future, which I also did. Her thesis is that the characters should not have been paired, period. The text does not support her assertions at all. Especially when the only text she references after Vision of the Future is Balance Point, and she gets that completely wrong as well. Is that really what you are trying to say?!?! Just want to add that nothing makes me happier than seeing non-native English speakers making the effort to read our site.

Your interest is appreciated. Where is the rest of the message? On the other hand, there are plenty of people who very much resent that the Princess who told Han Solo — in the middle of her rescue!

And she was so ineffectual at establishing and running a government that the New Republic was no more after a mere two decades. Again, I give you Callista. But these people forget that Luke bonded with and defended Leia to Han from the moment Luke and Leia met as adults — even though at the time he had no idea of their relationship, even though at the time Leia insulted and sniped at him as much as she insulted and sniped at Han.

Email Address. The mistakes started when she became a love interest for Luke, and ultimately his wife. Zahn and the other EU authors should have never had her marry Luke Skywalker. And in the end, the whole thing will be moot come Christmas anyway. Also meant to say: Gods, no, Mara is not an infallible character. Hate away on her, be my guest. There needs to be citation or example. Zahn himself has returned, writing a new trilogy focused around the new canon version of Thrawn, and in pretty much every interview the author has been asked about Mara Jade, who remains one of the most beloved figures from Star Wars Legends.

The problem, though, is that the new Star Wars canon has essentially eliminated all Mara Jade's roles. The Emperor's Hands do exist, but they're no longer spies and assassins who enforce Imperial justice; instead, they appear to be governors who are responsible for policing potential hotspots.

Meanwhile, although Darth Sidious is known to have collected Force-sensitive children as per Star Wars: The Clone Wars , the new canon has established that he handed these over to Darth Vader to serve as his Inquisitors.

There's simply no room for Mara Jade in the days of the Empire. Making matters even worse, the new canon's version of Luke Skywalker is a far more isolated figure. Disney's Luke Skywalker dedicated himself completely to rebuilding the Jedi Order, and then quit the galaxy after it all went horribly wrong.

There's little room in that story for romance, still less for marriage. The novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi featured Luke's wife as a daydream, further making it impossible for a real wife to appear. So Mara's origin doesn't fit any more, nor does her ultimate role as Luke's wife and fellow Jedi Master.

All this means that Disney is in something of a bind with Mara Jade. They could always introduce a character with the same name, powerset, and even character as Mara Jade; perhaps one of the Inquisitors, a member of Luke Skywalker's ill-fated Jedi Order , or simply a smuggler with historic ties to the Empire.

The problem is, though, that this would naturally be an appeal to old-school Legends fans who want to see one of their beloved heroes brought back into the Star Wars canon. And none of these rewrites would really scratch that nostalgic itch, because the Disney version of Mara Jade would need a new backstory, and she could never serve the same role as the EU's Mara.

That makes it pretty unlikely that Timothy Zahn, who always loved the character he created, would ever sign up to her being adapted like this.

Zahn has cautioned that he'd veto anything like that. When Luke comes across Mara Jade he is no doubt thinking the same thing Who is this woman? I was told to move this topic to this area..

Someone just told me that there are haters out there for Mara Jade Skywalker! Anti-Mara people? She is beautiful, she is strong, she understands lonliness like Luke does, she is strong willed and not easily fooled. She is also.. So, what is not to like? Is it the chip on her shoulder when she first meets Luke? Well, when Luke met his real father as Darth Vader, he had a chip on his shoulder as well you could say.

But Luke could SEE through it, see to what no one else could ever see.. Then later, he met Mara Jade. And like his father, Mara causes him a confusing lot of trouble, but yet there is something happening between them.

They need eachother, and don't know it yet. We know what happens next A love she needs. To me, this character is believable and refreshing. Not every woman is sheltered or protected from LIFE.

Some do grow up to be hard hearted and hiding pain. But there is hope for everyone to become the best they can be. Am I right in thinking that maybe it is that she is so independent minded, hard headed, strong willed, and dangerous? Not the usual type of female character. LEIA is also strong and independent in this way, and she fights love too..

Padme too is the strong type and yet she is not able to stop herself from loving Anakin. Mara is the same. But Mara was once a cruel woman. In service to the one man who she thought did care for her Sidious she was willing to build her life around him.

Vader also served Sidious. In both cases A bad choice. But Sidious took mara when she was just a child and she had no other form of love or caring. And in the end it was a choice that brought her eventually.. I don't want to sound Feminist.. I believe simply that the genders are Equal. Human is Human. Not everyone believes that.

But if Maras Independence and strong will and Strength is what makes people hate her, then may be it is because Somehow some people just can't swallow that Women are capable of the same passions and strengths are men are. We are strong and we are just as Human. History proves that. It's just that sadly many of us don't apply ourselves.

We let ourselves be treated differently in many ways.. And We are seperated in the military because we do not have to lift as much weight as the males..

Not because we can't lift it, but because we have never fought that rule yet.. We just go with it. You must learn to stop taking the easy way. Because all Women suffer when a few women refuse to stand up and be everything they can be when tested. Some of us just believe what we are told I guess.

AFter all.. Thats just psychology. In TIME the truth that there are some women up to the challenge will come out. Registered: Sep 25, Love Mara here! There is nothing to hate. Strong, courageous, beautiful, intelligent She's one of the best EU characters out there!

Registered: Apr 6, I love Mara, but you know that. I know she has her faults, but I find her a much better mate for Luke than any of the other women he was associated with But that is just me. I know there are Callista fans out there and I don't want to insult their favorite character Mara and Luke is like the classic tale The taming of the Shrew. Well, sort of. Anyway it is a tale of love overcoming hate.

I would say more but it is in the morning and my mind is not thinking clearly. I love Mara and Luke together. That is all that needs to be said. Registered: May 13, Funny Suzuki
